Its where you put the key, it comes out as a unit and can be replaced with new keys but that would not solve the problem of the door locks.
You might try a dealer with the vin#, the jeep may be too old to match the key to the vin# but its worth a try.

A locksmith can get in the Jeep, pull the tumbler and make a new set of keys for it. Cost me about $120 a few years ago.

It would be cheaper if you are already able to get in and pull the tumbler yourself and take it to him.

What year is your Jeep? I went to the dealer w/out the key, I had just the vin # and they cut me 2 keys for $20, a lot cheaper than having it re-keyed

analyze

Does it open the doors at all?

Have you tried turning it over. I know they are supposed to be symetrical, but I have 2 spares that will only work one way.

You should be able to go to a Locksmith with the VIN number and get a key cut. At least try it.

Perhaps your insurance covers that, such as AAA. You DO have a key so it isn't a lost key, just a key that won't work.
