I see a lot of HD setups online that don't have steering stabilizers at all... how important is it?

It depends on the set-up, condition of all the steering components, and personal preference.

I haven't ran one since January 2001 & never missed it. I took it off when I converted to SOA with MORE crossover steering. The geometry and construction of the MORE stuff unwarranted the use of one.

Currently, I don't run the MORE crossover steering, I run hysteer and wouldn't consider running one since it would be superfluous.

94 2.5 with 33's 4" susp lift. Steering is all stock. No stabilizer. I have been running this way since I got the jeep 3 years ago. If your components are in good condition it doesn't do much. Mostly they cover problems until they become larger.
