still in search of the yj, tranny question.

ok i found an 87 yj with 97,000 miles, comes with alot of extras, sunds liek tis never been abused, but the post says bad tranny, all i can think is maybe the clutch is going, or something else, its a 6cyl 5 speed, if i had to replace the tranny all together how much would a new one cost and one from the junk yard or could it be another common problem?

87 had two trans options. you could have an ax-15, or the peugot, which no one wants. you can tell by lookin at the trans, they are split in half opposite ways.

I am replacing my peugot with an ax15. With new clutch assembly, transfer case, and tranny about 700 total.

'87 was only the Puegot BA-10 trans...the "option" was in '89 when they swapped trans' mid year.
