I'm fixin to lose the hardtop on my recently purchased '87 yj for the summer, but I need to install some security storage components. I've been scopin out what places like Quadratec have available, and was wondering what others have found they like/don't like/wish they had/hadnt bought etc.
I bought 2 ammo cans and painted them black. I put tools in 1 and a towing chain and bungee cords as well as tie down straps in the other. threw them behind my front seats and they fit perfect. I am not sure on the YJ but I'd imagine should work out the same. You can buy locks for the ammo cans on cheaperthandirt.com for $9 and I saw a guy who bolted them down on the wheel wells against the tub.

the rear ones cannot be opened when the tailgate is locked because the latches are blocked by the tailgate. the under hood one is just not visible without the hood open.
tools go in big center rear box, ropes and straps in right box, misc stuff in left box. forward box has fluids and rags in it. all the rear ones are black too, not green and brown like in the pics
