I recently bought a 1988 yJ. Previous owner put a 4" lift and 33"x12.5 tires on it. Everything else looks stock. What is the number 1 thing I should do to help out the ride? Is there other things he should have done after the lift?

Any idea what kind of lift?

Shocks have an effect. What springs he used have an effect. How much torque was put on the shackles after everything was buttoned up would have an effect.

It's a short wheel base vehicle on arched leaf springs, so it's never going to be a silky smooth ride, but those are all things to consider.

What should the torque be on the shackle bolts?

Honestly I have no idea what lift he used. This is all new to me. The leaf springs look damn near straight with no arch to them. Like I said everything else looks to be stock parts. Definately needs new shocks for sure. Looks like the guy just added the lift and did nothing else to it. Is there anything that should have been added to the driveshaft or steering to accommodate the lift? Something tells me this thing is quickly going to become a money pit.

Are the springs sitting on top of the axles or under them?

The letters "JEEP" on the side of your vehicle should have been a dead give away ;-)

What's a good set of shocks to get? Do they have to be special since its lifted? I think its only a body lift not suspension.
