Swap VS rebuild question

Currently have a 4.2. One of the cylinders decided to crack. Walls look fine from what I can see and no damage to head, so not sure what went wrong.
My question is I found a 4.0 for sale for $450. Would I be better off doing the swap or a rebuild. I know the dangers around buying a used motor. I don't know if that's a decent price. Also don't know how much a rebuild is.
If I do the swap, is it difficult to do a 4.2 swap into a 4.0. What else do I have to do besides the fuel pump?
Other thing going through my head is to do the swap and keep the 4.2 and have an engine ready the way I want it for when the 4.0 dies if I do the swap.

I could see doing that swap, if you kept the fuel injection and added the 4.0HO ECU, wiring and sensors, and added a fuel injection-compatible tank/pump. Definitely a lot of work, but it would give you a nice power boost and get rid of the carb for better offroad fuel delivery.

Since your profile is empty, its difficult to give you more specific advice.
