Switching soft top to hard top and half doors to full doors

I'm looking to try and replace my soft top with a hard top and my half doors with full steel doors. Is there anything special I need to do? Also, I have read that the CJ7 hard top fits a Wrangler YJ, but does anyone know if the full steel doors off of a CJ7 will fit a Wrangler YJ?

They will.... but you will probably have to change the latches. I have a few if you are looking....

There is one important step you should follow. Soft tops and half doors are extremely hazardous for the environment. Put them in a box and send them to me. I will dispose of them for you.

@bc3 Jeep: How hard is it to change the latches? I suppose I could canibalize the latches out of my half doors if I had to. I am still looking for the hard doors and hard top, but they are extremely hard to find at a good price in California for some reason. If you have a set of doors or a top you'd like to sell me, name a price and we'll see what we can work out.

@Rocky lange: I would be willing to sell them to you, but you have to understand that the windows on my soft top are crap. That's one reason I'm looking to get rid of it, but the other reason is I'm planning to move somewhere cold soon, and I'd like to not freeze to death everytime I drive my Jeep anywhere. But I have the half doors with the soft uppers, and the window on the driver side has a large chunk of the plastic missing because it got cold one morning and when I openned it and folded it down, it cracked all the way across. a couple of the other windows have small cracks in them, and you really can't see well out of any of them anymore.

I think they would be cost prohibitive to ship tops/doors. Especially half way across country.... I am in Illinois. What cold part of the country are you relocating to????? Perhaps it would be best if you waited until you go there.....

The latches are not the problem......for the CJ doors it is the CATCH/striker that is different on the INSIDE of the Jeep.....whomever you buy your doors from, check to see what kind of catch/striker was inside of the original.

The tops are not an issue with fit.... but will not fit stock soft doors....can go to aftermarket soft doors tat will fit....

You may want to wait a bit. I bought my full doors in December from a guy who deals only with Jeeps, and he says he always runs low or even out of hard tops and full doors in good shape in the winter. Once it gets warmer the demand for them drop and they become easier to find and cheaper.

Although I live in NJ where we have seasons, I don't know where in CA you are or where you are moving to. Location matters a lot with hard top and door pricing and availability.

I'm planning on moving to Upper Michigan in August, and I'll probably be there at least a few years. I have been noticing that the hard tops are much easier to find on Craigslist up in the northern Midwest region. The problem being that the trip up there is going to suck so bad with the soft top that I have, so it would be nice to get the hard top before I go up there. However, I may just end up going that route. But you're probably right about waiting until the summer time to find one.

Yeah, it seems every summer people decide they don't want to deal with the hardtop anymore and start selling them. Then every winter there are people looking for them all the sudden and the price goes up as availability goes down.

Well, I would at least want to get my hands on the full doors, 'cause I have the half doors with the soft uppers, and if that plastic ever gets cold and you try to open the window, it just gets stiff and then cracks, which has happened to my driver side. Plus the zipper for that window is all messed up. Also, the other reason I want to get rid of the top I have is because I can't really see well out the windows. They're pretty messed up. Also, I need to fix my heater, 'cause it isn't working either. But I think it's just a problem with the controls in the dash or the thermostat, 'cause for some reason it won't let me set the temperature level all the way over to hot, the slider will only stay in the middle.

The slider may be due to a kinked control cable. Mine doesn't really work on the selector from vent to feet. I have to reach under the dash and move the control by hand.

So out of curiosity, do any of you guys know anything about the wiper controls for a Wrangler? My switch broke for them, so I was trying to wire in a toggle switch to control them, but whenever I cross the ignition 12V wire with either the high or low speed wires, it starts sparking and heating up to the point of smoking. I think that means the motor is dead and it's trying to work, but drawing too much current while it's at it.
