Tank Puncture

Well, the fella helping me install my rear lift shackles managed to puncture the gas tank. A few hours later after draining it, I have a question. Can the plastic tank be safely and effectively patched or will I need to replace the tank?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I feel pretty sure that JB Weld would do it. I think they make something to patch tanks with. How big a hole is it?

It's just a tiny little thing... not even at a corner. I was hoping a patch would both fix it AND make sure it was secure enough to wheel with. I'd HATE to find out a patch couldn't take the stress once I got off-road somewhere.

*sigh* what a horribly frustrating day it's been...

Yeah, if the hole is that small there are definitely some products you can get to patch it up good as new. But at the moment I can't remember what they are for the life of me. Hopefully someone here can remember something they've used before.

Edit: Wait a minute just remembered. Permatex Gas Tank Patch, it's like an epoxy that will seal it up good for ya.

Whew! That was what I needed to know. There's a 'kit' but I have a huge amount of skepticism when it comes to possible gas leaks.

Thanks SO much, guys. (You saved that fella's LIFE, trust me!)

That Permatex stuff will harden just like the plastic on your tank. Put on correctly shouldn't be any worries about leaks.
