Time for a new muffler! yay!

Ok, so as many of you know, im back in a wrangler... and this time im doin it it up right... first comes first... I wanna get a new muffler with more of a deeper muscle car sound... I was think of a "flowmaster original 40", I want to know whats the size/sizes i need to fit it with a currently stock exhaust..?

Feel free to recommend a better muffler if you want

Thanks for the help,
Neil

Do you have the 4.0 or the 2.5?, if you have the 4 banger I wouldn't reccomend a flowmaster, but they do sound pretty good on the 4.0

i have a TJ and mine was 2.25". not sure if its the same for the YJ. you should definitely get it welded on.

what he said though ^^ i wouldn't recommend flowmaster on a 4 banger. if its a 6 though then i would definitely go for it. i have the original 40 on mine and LOVE it. the delta, super, and standard sound alright but i think the original sounds much better.

good luck. by the way, i just got a new flowmaster muffler welded on with the stock tubing (which will just give you the sound you want without changing pipes) and i added a tip and with labor it was still only $150. without the tip it would have been $120.

That is what I did. I ran the pipe between the spring and the frame. It is great in traffic, blowing exhaust in people's faces in their little bimmers. The 40 series is a great choice. It'll make your Jeep sound like the animal it is.

Let us know. I'm interested to know what that thing will sound like on your Jeep. When I was in high school, you weren't cool unless you had the cherry bombs. I had 'em on my 318 way back when. Couldn't even hear myself think.

I like Cherry Bombs Ad in JP
it says

Cherry Bomb, disturbing the peace since 1969!

I thought that was cool

I had 2 on my 73 nova 396SS. And your right about your parents knowing what time you get home. I would kill the motor and coast for like a mile to keep them from knowing. My guess is that you can hear the cherry bombs for over a mile...LOL

$120 is way too much. i didn't pay near that much for mine. sorry to let you know this but i just listened to a glass pack on a 4.0 on exhaust sound clips web site and sorry but it sounded like absolute CRAP! sounded like it didn't have a muffler. actually worse. i wouldn't buy something cheap just because you want it now. save until your next paycheck and wait and get somethin good. oh well at least you only wasted $22

For $22...throw it on and see what you think. You might like it. I had a set of Thrush turbo mufflers on a Chevy truck. They were cheap and sounded nice.

I got it on, and holy shit, it sounds pretty damn good.... I love the downshift to backfiring noise i get from it.... I also did a airintake today... I gained about 20-30 hp, I can now chirp the wheels going to second when im slaming on it.

Glass pack = cheap, but great sounding muffler.

I have a spare high flow cat if you want to throw that on too. I bought it to work with my stock emissions set up, it has the small air tube nipple on the side. When I went with the Howell fuel injection it didn't require the nipple so I bought another one. This thing has never been out of the box.

20-30 hp! haha are you sure? you may gain that much at 5,000 rpms but thats about it. you'd be lucky for 10 or 15hp

thats what i meant to say.... like 20 hp at 5 grand, the air intake just starts sucking it in, you can hear the wosh of air going into it

oh ok. now that sounds more believable. cause when they test the cold air intakes for the HP and torque gains its at very high rpm's like that.
your goin up to 5,000rpm's when you drive? holy crap
