Only if you want to tear your tailgate apart. My 31's started working on the hinges.

I purchased some new hinges off ebay that were more heavy duty than stock and hung a 33x12.50 on my tailgate and havent had any problems. Been that way for about a year. Oh yeah that is with steel wheels.

well i biught a 35 inch spare for my jeep. I put it on the stock carier and it looked like it was a little heavy on the hinges of the tail gate. What is the cheapest thing i can do to either strengthen the tail gate hinges or make a bumper mounted tire carrier

best thing you can do is order an aftermarket swing away tire carrier. thats what i plan on doing. check out the Rugged Ridge tire carriers. they are fairly cheap. a rear bumper with swing away tire carrier package is something like 400 bucks.

but with a 35, i would say thats WAY to much weight for the tailgate to support, even with upgraded hinges. even if the hinges dont give out, eventually, after opening and closing it enough, youll make one LARGE dent in your tailgate from the weight of the tire slamming shut on the tailgate

well i threw it on the jeep and talked to my grandpa who is an ex army mechanic and he said it will be fine until i can get an aftermaket carrier. My friend also had a 35 on his and he had no problems.

I had my 35 on the stock carrier and I took it off and put it where the back seat should be, seat belted in. I wanna mount what it was mounted to to the floor, but I don't wanna have to drop the tank to bolt it in. It seemed flimsy when mounted on the back, too much weight for that carrier.

I think it will be fine until i can find and alternative. i do have to lift up on the tire to get the tailgate closed.

Hmmmm...
I'm gonna consider the heavy duty swing away....
This is the boy on there now & I have yet to replace it with a match to my MT Classic Lock w/ Baja Claw that I just added 4 of -
just can't afford it (matching spare) yet.
