Hey everybody, I want to put Christmas lights on my jeep and was wondering if anyone else has done it and how they did it? I have looked in the TJ and JK sections and the people that have done it there have used a power inverter and plugged it into their cig lighter. This would be hear, except I don't have my cig lighter any more. I took it out and idiot me must have thrown it away at some point. The wires are still there, so I guess I could try and find one at a wrecking yard, but I don't have a lot of time to do that. Does anyone know if a toggle switch (like what you use for off road lights) would work?
We have a few strings of battery powered led light that we use on the stair railings. Pretty bright, and the batteries last the whole season. Might be an option.
Thanks lol I usually just wrap mine around the spare tire.. Colored lights too (whoops lol) & lots of zip ties.
If you really want to get fancy sacrifice an old extension cord and clip both ends & wire the female side to your cig wires and the male side to your inverter.. (then you can unplug it and take it with you if you're worried about theft)
I figured as long as my lights are not blinking and are in the back I should be cool... Been two years doing this and never been stopped.. But hey I live in Cleveland so they could probably care less
They also make an inverter that gets hard wired directly to the battery.
But I will give you a word of caution, multi-colored lights are illegal to have on while on the roadway in most states. Although it looks cool, and you want to celebrate the season. If you get caught by a cop that doesn't see the festivity, you are going to get a big fine.
Same as having a clear light on that is above the height of the head lights. (such as spot lights mounted on the windshield pillars, or an overhead light bar). They look cool, but they are illegal to operate in almost every state. Some people don't know that and others don't care.
I will have to ask then. I didn't even think about that. I was planning on just putting them on the bumpers so I don't know if that would make a difference
Yayy! I run a small coleman inverter and just ziptie stuff to all the s**t I have bolted to my heep. Then I zip my soft rear window to feed the little cord through.
My back looks kinda like your minus the badass jerry cans. I don't do anything on the front.
