This past week I went to my local court house walked into the drafting department and got me an ohio(hocking) county map of roads, this map also has roads marked that aren't maintained anymore. I had inquired about what types of vehicles are aloud on these roads he had told me that these were regular township roads that aren't in use anymore and motorized vehicles are aloud on them he even directed me to another place to pick up a list of phone numbers to various township garages to call when a road had a gate up, I was told to call the number let them know which road had a locked gate and within 1 to 3 days they would send out someone to open it! Over the weekend I decided to try some of these roads some were pretty much impassable due to either not been used in many years or lack of a mud tire because of raining all day. I noticed some of these roads lead me onto motorcycle trails I'm assuming they've taken old roads to help with the structure of the trails . Now when I got my maps there was only 2 roads that he marked and said no motorized vehicles were aloud to be on these which I stayed away from, has anyone else had any of these maps or taken old roads to wheel on ? I'll have to admit finding some took a good eye to find and only tried around 5 or 6 roads b4 it just got to dark to be out by myself or to overgrown to have someone to bring my pick up out and scratch it all up to get me out of whayever

I like the 1:24,000 topo maps here in New Mexico. The only problem is that some of the roads aren't there any more because some of the maps haven't been updated in 25 years or so.

Try Google Earth for images of what's out there under the overhanging trees.

We love finding old roads that we haven't been on before. Just try to let someone know where you're going and when you should be returning, just in case.
