transmision help. please

hello this is my first post and would like to find out if an automatic transmission or manual transmission off of a 4.0l six would bolt to an 1989 yj four cylinder.it has the five speed now but needs rebuilt and for some reason nobody wants to rebuild it or they say it could cost a bunch.any help would be helpful.if it wont bolt up i guess i will have a four cylinder for sale to get money for a 4.0l setup.picked this jeep up at a good price and its just a project jeep so im open to suggestions.

If it helps any, I always prefer manual, plus the AX-15 from a 4.0L is nearly bulletproof. I know Advance Adapters makes an adapter for ax-15 to the 4 angry squirrels, hopefully they have one for your year.

Also this is a jeep fanatic tranny site about what tranny mates with what t/c and what mates with what engine best. Read for 15 minutes.
