Was going to change my gear oil in my transmission but not sure what to use I was told u have to be carful bc u can mess up ur synchros any help would be greatly appreciated it's in a AX15 oh and how much would I need thanks
It is a debate, so please take what I am about to say with a grain of salt and do research.
Do not use a GL-5 lubricate it your trans. It has the chance to eat the synchronizer rings. Some say it won't. But lets not chance it. Enough of us agree that there are other better options. Jeep even changed their recommendation to 10w-30. Please don't get the numbers confused between motor oil and gear oil. 10w-30 motor oil is nearly the same viscosity as 75w-90 gear oil. Just don't get something GL-5
Thanks everyone I am going to go with the pennzoil I have heard that once before but I wanted to see what everyone else uses my trans has 150k on it and I checked the oil in it and it's all brownish so I figured I would change it and see what happens I'm in the middle of rebuild a new AX15 for it but it's taking for ever for my parts
