Wagoneer vs. YJ

My friend owns a 1989 Grand Wagoneer. While I respect the fact that it is a quite capable off roader, I dont agree with him at all when he says that wagoneers were made as tough as possible to take an off road beating while my jeep (a YJ) was made more for on road use and is not nearly as toughly built or as capable off road. I know he's wrong but I wanted to hear what you guys have to say.

dana 44 axles or the amc rear.
long wheelbase

Other than the bad departure angle from the rear being so long they have a good amount of plus's

4 or 6
horrible stock rear axle, mediocre front axle
short wheelbase

People grenade stock rear ends regularly. I wouldnt call that tough.

The one thing the yj has that would make it more "capable" is the fact that it is smaller and lighter.

The wagoneer is definetly a more tough vehicle stock vs stock.

2.5/ax5/ 231-300 doubler, Dana 60 front( 4ws springless double arm, tierod behind axle, 4ws springless driver side arm, hydro assist) 14bff , detroit, discs, pinion guard) Warn x8000i w/synthetic line, York OBA, Cage, Flat belly, miniboatside, tube fenders,3 link front w/ 14in Kings,4 link rear with TJ coils and Bilstiens, comp cut, 108WB, H1 Double beadlocks, 39.5 IROKs

FSJs are the tougher of the two. There biggest downfall is the overhang as mentioned, plus quite a bit of frame flex. Only the front is boxed. You'd be very surprised at how it handles on the trail for it's size.

Plus, you don't see FSJ drivers looking at smaller Jeeps for axles...
