What did i brake now????

I was driving down the road yesterday and she cut off on me(87 YJ), I was only 1/4 mile from the house... anyways, I couldn't get her to turn over, the only way I could get her to keep going was to hold the key all the way fwd in the starting position, as soon as I let go of the key, she would cut off... ANY IDEAS????

Sounds like it is in the switch.

X2 on the switch, had a similar problem on an old Eldorado I used to have. Trying to drive it home, resulted in a loud boom & an exploded muffler. The rest of the way home was very loud, & I was stopped by two separate Philly Cops For excessive noise!

Sadly, I'm all too familiar with this one (think day before yesterday...) it's the ignition switch. My original stall was accompanied by smoke coming out of the steering column.

the ignition switch cost like 18 or 8 bucks at your local parts store, just replaced mine. For better access you got to take out the steering column that are holded on to two bolts at the top and about 6 bolts where it meets at the firewall.also depending on your transmission if you have a auto you need to disconnect one of the linkage rods. theres also going to be one bolt holding the Column with the steering shaft.
