What gear size should I go with for my Yj

I have a 90 model Yj and I'm think about changing the factory gears out plus installing 35s. I have asked a few different local 4x4 shops in town and looked on line. I haven't found any one who has the same idea. It's 4.56 with out changing axle , it's you better change axle if you install 4.56 or 4.88. ford axle etc. Does anyone know about this first hand. Thanks... I have the 4.2 v6 & run 33s.
Thanks

Just fyi, not trying to bust balls, but you do not have a v6 engine. It is an inline 6. All the cylinders are in a line.

I think this is the most common thoughts on the issue:
Going to 35s with stock axles is asking for trouble eventually. Will that be the day after you mount them? or 3 years later? That all depends on how you drive it and the axles history. It is unknown. But it will fail...eventually.

Most people would say do not drop the money of a regear into the stock D35. Put that money towards a ford 8.8. Also, if you have 3.07s stock, you will need a new carrier to install the gears you want. That is another added cost.

I have 35s and 4.88 gears, but when I first got my 35s I tried keeping the d35 axle and broke it the second time I went wheeling. I honestly had 35s on the d35 for maybe 3 weeks before it gave out. I wasn't even pushing it hard, I just got up on a hill climb and the added weight on the back end caused it to give. I'm very pleased with 35s and 4.88 gears in my 8.8 axle however.

I have 35's with 4.56's, but honestly it is too low for freeway/highway in my opinion. If my jeep was an everyday driver, I'd have gone with 4.10 with the 4.2l and 35's.

If I were you with 33's and it was a daily driver that goes highway often I'd say find a ford 8.8 with 3.73 and gear the front to the same, just around town/offroad driver and or you want amazing power I'd find a 4.10 8.8 and gear the front to the same.

What axles do you have?
