Because when you eliminate the split axle on the passenger side, you're spinning the differential ALL the time. Its like having lockout hubs (like on my CJ5) but just never unlocking them. It's not a gigantic drain...but for me it was about 2mpg.

2MPG is pretty substantial when your only getting 11MPG. I'd shit myself if I lost 2 more.

I suppose you're right... but at the same time, I went from 31's to 33's so I guess my estimate is probably off a little.

And just in the name of full disclosure, you are already turning your front diff 'sometimes'. The driver side shaft spins the diff from time to time, or constantly if you have a spool or have the locker engaged full time in the front. Although I don't have any idea why anyone would do that.

Make sure you check that pinion angle. It should be about 2 degrees under the drive shaft angle. It should definatelly not be inline with the Tcase output like it comes factory. I'm sure you know this but just trying to back you up. Looks good under there.

Hang on. If it is not SOA I thought it is supposed to be pointed at the TC yoke. That is what a drive shaft place told me. If it is a CV shaft that is the propper angle. SOA it should be 1-3 degrees low if you have a traction bar, and a few lower if you don't. Curious if I missed something.

If you're SOA then you go to the heavy side of that 1-3* but if SUA you go light. You should be about a degree under the yoke. You still have a minute amount of axle wrap which is what that accounts for. I just couldn't tell if you had pointed it up enough from the pic. It only barely shows the pinion. But yes you get a ton of axle wrap with SOA and that's why we go closer to 3*. You should be about a degree below. Another thing is you want your U-joint bearings to move slightly to keep them greased up so you want a slight bend in it anyway. You just don't want it bent too much because then you'll get vibrations. You're on the right path if you are about 1* below the drive shaft angle. Great question.

I finally cut my fenders. Not sure what I will do with the back, leave the flare on or remove it.

Fender Removal

Just be sure your local peace officers are cool with it. I haven't had any on for a long time either, but some of my friends have gotten "fix-it" tickets. In Kalifornia, fix-it tickets cost you a minimum $25 administration fee.
The ticket is for the tires sticking out too far from the fender (2 inches here.)

Yup, I live in PA and cannot remove my flares. Most I will do is cut the sides and do tube fenders when I feel like dropping the cash.

That's a bummer. I run around with no front license plate, no flares at all, and no light on my back plate and noone here bothers me.

Yeah, dont need front plates here in PA at all, and flares arent a big deal, but I live in the city. Sometimes the cops around here are just

Yea plates will get you pulled over here. I have a few buddies that run without flares, and never had a problem. Probably a luck of the draw.

Here in Colorado we should technically get tickets for no fender coverage but they never get handed out. I've been going a few months without em now.

I don't know about your state, but Kalifornia is broke as a joke...tickets are flying in every direction.
