When I first got mine I had every intention of JP'ing it but fell in love with it as it is. Still, it does look awesome with that paint job.

Today I topped off the tank on my YJ and hit some trails! The first part was not as fun as the second.

UPS dropped of my Smitty XRC winch and winch cover today, so spent about 2 hours this afternoon mounting it and hooking it all up. Must say I do like the look much better, that bumper was begging for this winch. Off to the hills tomorrow, gonna test this thing out Kentucky Style !!

Not today but over the last two weeks I got the new front bumper installed, winch, illumination LED pods, and a 13.5" illumination LEDs light bar. On the fairlead.

Getting it ready for jeep beach.

Brought home my new YJ...

I spent a few days last week preparing and bringing home my new jeep. As of right now, I have a very long parts list. I see my YJ as a blank canvas; it needs a new frame and front end. The good news is that the engine (mostly) and radiator are fine. The oil looks very good and at the proper levels and when I removed the radiator, the coolant came out looking like lime cool-aid. It has been sitting for about 10 years.

And, now at idle, the volt meter shows the battery to only be getting about 10v instead ov just over 12. When I swapped out the starter relay, I also repaced the batter cable. The terminal the PO put on was a single wire terminal and the wire that goes to the relay kept coming loose. So I went to a double wire terminal. I did notice that the second wire seems to be only about 14 gauge vs the 10 gauge that was there - and is still there. Spliced the new lead to it.
Your battery should be above 12 volts with the key turned off. It should be about 14 volts while running, no matter idle or high speed.
Are you sure the battery is OK ?
I would charge it good, and then take it to and auto parts store and have them test it.

Yesterday, I started pulling the skid plate in order to pull out the transfer case to upgrade to a SS SYE kit... then started to pull the front end off in preparation of a SOA kit...

Today I ordered a SOA kit from Rocky Road Outfitters with the OTT Steer kit...
(I've heard both good and bad on the net regarding RRO, but decided to try them based on what I needed for my YJ...will definitely give a review of their service and product after kit is installed)...ordered a Terra Flex SS SYE kit from Terra Flex shop (BTW if you are military they do have a military discount available...I called them directly and ordered thru Doug at Terra Flex, saved me about $45!)...and finally today I will track down a good deal on a Loc-Right locker for my little D35....

The story I was told: The owner's kids were driving back from tubing the Salt River in AZ and ran a stop sign. They T-boned a car, and as you can see by the damage, they must have been going at a pretty good speed. The kids walked away without any injuries.

It was given to me. The only money I spent was on renting the dolly (I borrowed the smaller tires from my brother's Cherokee) and gas to get it from point A to point B.
There is a lot of research I need to do on this Jeep. I figure this is a blank slate and I need to figure out what suspension set-up I want and stuff. I already know it needs a new frame. You can tell by where the engine is compared to the grill.
What shackles did you go with?

I doubt the shackles would cause that. I have noticed no wobble with my 1.25 lift Performance Acc. shackles, and those look similar. I always thought leaf springs don't get DW.

I was half right. Glad no one was injured tho. At least you got a free parts jeep. Now get a frame and get to building!

What shackles did you go with?
I bought some custom CNC made 3/8ths thick stock length shackles on Ebay, then went with a spring lift. Most of those Warrior lift shackles like that Jeep has, are greaseable shackles. So, you may be able to salvage the rifle drilled bolts from them for use on the one you build. From the looks of your pics, it looks like there are arched springs on that Jeep or the frame is bent causing them to bow up, so it may have a 2.5 or 4 inch lift already. Springs should be ok, as the shackles would bend before the leafs. But would definitely check them for cracks or broken leafs. If anything, it may be a good donor Jeep.

I was just joking around, many things can cause DW(and is less likely on Leaf spring set ups, as you stated), bad stabilizer, bad tie rod ends, etc.. I just do not like the way those lift shackles alter degrees of Caster. My Jeep drives and handles so much better since I removed my 1.25" Warrior shackles and went with spring lift instead. Mine were on my Jeep when I bought it, well the PO had put them on the front only to make clearance for the 31x10.50 tires on 15x10 wheels. The rear was stock when I bought it. I put rear 1.25 lift shackles on it almost immediately to even it out, but I didn't like the way it handled on the road, so I removed all four and added front and rear spring lift instead.

Hey, just an FYI. If any of you all want a Hi-lift style jack for your Jeep. Google search Smittybilt part number 2722(54 inch Jack with handle isolator) or click the link below, You can get them through Quadratec for $44.99(reg. 79.99) and free shipping. This was the best deal I could find on one that tall. And 54 inches will fit inside the Jeep, side to side for roll bar mounting or across the hood for a hood mount.

If you go straight to Quadratec's website, there is a 11.99 shipping fee also. But the link below will give you free shipping.

Smittybilt 2722 - Smittybilt Trail Jack with Handle Isolator - Quadratec

I would think that you just earned some valuable points with the wife.
