Installed a new Wilson Felx III CB antenna today, mounted my old faithful 1976 Midland 23 channel CB to the back of my console yesterday. FedEx brought my new Smittybilt Trail Jack today and FedEX brought my new Daystar/Smittybilt winch fairlead isolator.
Got to go pick up a coax cable tomorrow and a new microphone form my old Midland. Then mount my jack to the roll bar inside. Then its time to start saving for my motor rebuild and clutch.

Playing around a little today.. lol New Daystar/Smitty Isolator for the fairlead and winch hook.

New CB antenna installed, just lacking the coax cable. Get it tomorrow.

They opened a new 4WD Store in Tulsa!! Like going in a toy store. Bought an aluminum fairlead and synthetic winch rope and they gave me not 1 but 2 t-shirts! Changed out the cable and fairlead and lost about 30 pounds of weight in the front.

Some urban offroading and fishing today. Got to do some balancing. I could have flexed more, but couldn't find anything bigger than that cinder block I put on top.

Attempted to re-tune my carb. but discovered it was just about as far leaned out as it could go - though I SWEAR I richened it up a bit for the winter...

Advanced the timing a little more - was at about 8BTDC and I advanced it to 12BTDC. She pulls a little more and seems to drive a little bit better now. We'll see...

Also, cut an additional gasket for the valve cover cap as I was getting oil leaking out through the old seal. I kept the old one on there and then just added the new one to it. Was d@mn near impossible getting the cap back on - but she doesn't leak oil out of the cap anymore!

... I need to pull the valve cover and check out the situation going on under there... I keep hearing random clicking/tapping sounds while sitting at stoplights and when I poped my hood to see where it was coming from I could hear it best from the valve cover... I'm just terrified of when I'll find inside. Though maybe if something's funky in there it'll give me an excuse to do a 4.0L header swap...

Changed the fluid in the front and rear differentials. I was late to my nieces birthday party, but what can I say.....you've got to have priorities

Next weekend; fluid changes in the tranny and transfer case.

I welded the front directly to the frame. As for the rear, I used the same 2x4 tubing cut to 10" lengths, and welded them to the back of the bumper. Then punched bolt holes in them and bolted it to the frame where the hoops were bolted on..

As for an after action report on how they hold up.....

The front hung on great yesterday despite having to be tugged on quite a bit getting some folks unstuck. As for the rear, the bumper held up fine, but considering I just bolted it on where the hoops were bolted to, under some extreme pressure, pulling from my hitch, it bent my bumper up a bit. Didn't bend the bumper, but the rear frame cap it is bolted to didn't hold up real great. Problem will be solved two ways.

1. will bend back strait, and weld a bead along the bottom to keep it from pulling away again.

2. D Rings will be attached to the bumper to pull from center rather than the hitch whick puts up leverage on it...

I bent mine in the same manner. How do you plan on straightening it? Plan on using heat?

Large instrument known as force amplifier, or bang inhancer (Hammer, Grin) after pulling the bumper back off first. Should be easy enough. Then bolt it back on and buz the bottom with a bit of weld... After the D Rings are installed on the bumper, I should not have this problem again. It was due to the leverage on the hitch pulling up from the botom side.

Thanks man! My new XRC style bumpers will be in tomorrow and they have D-rings. Hopefully I won't have this problem again either.

I ABOUT had this problem!

I got my doors off and was in the middle of recruiting a few friends to come take the top off when it looked like it might rain. It didn't... But I went inside and checked the weather and it's supposed to rain the next 3 or 4 days (60%+ chance). So I scrubbed the mission and put the doors back on.

In hindsight - I wish I would've at least left the doors off until it ACTUALLY started raining...

Here is what I had done Friday

On Friday I made the trip down to JPI in Yucaipa for a custom made engine skid plate and new motor and trans mounts. Of course the mounts were totally roached but that was to be expected for a Jeep this old.
Here are 2 pics, before and after for the skid plate, enjoy!

Mounted lights to my windshield and made speaker boxes to fit 6.5 inch speakers that sit on the wheel well next to the rear roll bar.

I took the top half of the doors and the back window off. Had record temps yesterday and today. Over 85 for the rest of the week.
