Today I cut out a sheet metal heat shield and installed it over the manifold, I am trying to keep my rubber and plastic stuff from getting fried.

5lb hammer on it does the trick usually. Hit it with pb blaster if you got it. They are a bitch. I just dealt with mine I put in last year. I always buy new ones before pulling them because I would never put a used one on with all it takes to get them off. Don't want to cheap out on steering components.

I had to put my steering box in a vice to get the Pittman arm off after it destroyed my puller with a 600 ft lb impact gun. Here is what's left of my vice. Just got it a few weeks ago too, glad I got a good deal. Got the arm off though.

A light coat of grease on the taper helps a lot when it comes time time to dissemble it as well.

I used grease and PB blaster. It still took about 10 hits with a 5lb hammer in my vice. I was swinging with both hands. It bent and destroyed the pitman arm puller. I have pulled it apart a couple times before, but this time it was just a nightmare. Probably because I used an impact gun to tighten the bolt holding the pitman arm in place. Better safe than sorry with steering components. What I really need is an acetylene torch, that will make a lot of things easier.

Got the track bars off. They didn't want to cooperate, so a pack of sawzall blades and some patience helped a lot. Only 1 casualty, my 55 torx shattered when I put my 4 foot breaker bar on it. That's when I went all caveman with the saw. The ride is really improved. I can still feel every bump, but the bumps are definitely softer. Handling seems unaffected, at least around town. I don't do much highway driving, it makes the squirrels tired.

I saw that the sway bar bushings are trashed. I'm going to take it off and drive it to see what difference it makes, if any. If it feels dicey, I'll put it back on with new bushings.

I found one for about $30 at O'Reilly's. Don't remember the brand name. It came with a small compressor, two trumpet horns, and the tubing required. The horns are plastic, so I may look around for some used truck horns now that I have the compressor.

Changed the plugs, cap and rotor, and the plug wires. It runs better and smoother idle. Next is to change the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner through it.

Yep hopefully it will only be a few days. I did take the opportunity to pressure wash the under carriage and re-paint the frame. Also re-painted the Cragar soft 8's that's going on the new tires with Rustoleum hammered Black which is what I used on my bumpers and rocker guards.

I like that hammered on paint. Pretty good at hiding flaws on the metal. That's the only stuff I'll use on my axels.

Yeah it works really good and I like the color and look of it over regular black. Wish they still sold it in 1/4 and 1/2 gallons. When I first used it about 10 years ago it was roll or brush on and took a lot to chip it. I banged out a driveshaft u-joint on my bumper back then and it didn't chip.

Well finally heard back from the guy I was suppose to get tires from and he is out until mid january at the earliest. So jumped on craigslist and found a set of 35x12.50x15 BFG KM2's with 1/2 - 3/4 tread left for $350 so picking them up after work on my way home.

Is your coolant bypassing the intake manifold straight to your firewall? Did you do it yourself/ why?

I had bad knocking do to bad exhaust leak from cracked exhaust manifold

Replaced manifold-> still knocking bad.

Pulled valve cover off and found one lifter on third cylinder about to come off from a bolt that was on by one bolt thread. And two slightly loose on the first and 6th one. Tightened them up and jeep sound 110% better although I burnt most my spark plugs.

Changed em and running great

Bad manifold

Tires and wheels are on and it's riding quieter, smoother, and 300 less rpm at 70mph on the highway than it did with the 33's. They measured out to 11/32 in the center with my tire gauge. Quick pic will get a better one later
