Question What is a cheap way to lift a '90 YJ????

Ok folks..I have a limited amount of $$ (very, very limited!!), but I would like to lift the YJ a little. What is the least expensive (but safe) way to get a lift on my YJ? I wanted to do lifting blocks on the suspension, but it seems like the leaf springs would have to go on top of the axle??? I just don't know...please help!!!!

Longer shackles. I'd recommend the MORE 3/4" lift ones. (Moutain Off Road Ent)
Lift and cheap really don't go together, you get what you pay for.
If you want a lift why not start saving and buy a good kit?
Rough Country just had a sale on the 4" kit, it was less than $500.

replaces the stock front and rear shackles with longer ones, thus pushing the jeep taller. Would look at no more than 1.5" lift version of them.

when you do the shackle lift, do you need to replace the shocks as well?

I understand that for sure, but the budget is stretched a little thin right now...just trying to see if there is a reasonable alternative to the process..I was wanting to try to spend no more that $200 - $250

Most likey you can leave your stock shocks for now. Best thing for offroad on the YJ is to dissconnect the sway bar, world of difference and you stock shock with a minor lift should be okay.

Google shackle lift. Look at a good pair, you're talking $60. You need them for front and rear. Make sure they are at least 3/8 inch thick and I advise buying the bolts with them, not going to the hardware store. If you choose the hardware store route get grade 8 stainless.

i got a set of front and back shackles off ebay. 1.5" shackles came with grade 8 bolts with grade 8 nylon nuts. powdercoated black. 3/8"s thick, made of bulletproof metal. and has a lifetime warranty for $75 shipped. then i had to buy the bushings seperate from jcwhitney

I have the Warrior Products 2" lift shackles. They are plenty strong and I have been running them for about four years. The only problem is the powder coat is crap and has mostly came off. Remember, 2" lift shackles will lift the Jeep 1" because it only lifts one end of the spring. I found that my shocks were limiting my downward travel off road, but they should be fine for a while until you get another chunk of money.

I have a 2" body lift and it cost a little over $100
You have not said how much lift your looking for and for how much $$
An add a leaf would be cheap also and get 2"+ or -, for a little over $100. Again shackles are cheap too and I would go no higher than 1.5 on them.
So cheap you could get about 4" with spending about $300 or so but you will need shocks too depending on how you lift it. 2" body with 1.5 shackles and your probably ok with the stock ones.

A tow truck is a cheap way to lift a YJ up.

So not having the $$ to run out and buy something off the market makes me less of a man??? Wanting to spend a certain amount of $$ makes me less of a man?? Damn, I guess I have my values all screwed up....Maybe I could just not pay the house note for a month...is that what a man would do?? It's not like we ALL have money pouring out of our butt here. What a moron!

I think what he may have meant was "saving is the way to go" - you get what you pay for.. especially in lifts / lifting techniques.
I can tell you one thing.. after you save and do a suspension lift, you won't regret it or even look back once.
As you get further into your Jeep, you will be poor - if you get what you want in
terms of build -

What I did so far - and this was outdated 3 days after I made it:
