I'm having terrible trouble with my heat in my 94 YJ. There is a flap in the passenger side floor board that is apparently open and is allowing cold air to rush in and you have to reach down to the right side of it and physically close it but as soon as you stop or park and restart it opens right back up. Also there is two wires hanging down above this vent that I have no clue what they are and what they go to. What controls that flapper in the passenger side floor board. I see a cable on the side of it but I cant track down where it goes and what controls it?

If you will notice in the second picture the flap appears to be wide open then in the third it appears to be partially closed and then in the forth it appears that it is closed. Can you make out these two plug and wire assemblies.
in the second picture it looks like your vent door control is unhooked! in the last picture that looks like a light switch connection for plunger on door ( for dome light) Im not sure about the larger wire conector? is everything in dash working properly?
You are correct, it is unhooked in the second picture because the cable is broken or unhooked and I have to reach over and manually open and close that valve. As for the wire connectors, everything on the dash works but there is no light on the heater unit. Menaing I cannot see anything on the heat or cool when driving at night. I'm not sure there is even anything suppose to be lit up but everything to my knowledge is lit up on the dash.
I have noticed that plug also. I thought maybe it was wiring for people with a/c,
but thats just a blind guess. I don't have a light for my heater controls either.
Well, with that cable missing maybe just a little air movement is all it takes to keep it open and when you stop it flops back down. If you don`t want to take the time to fix it right, put a little bungee on it or something to hold it open.
I just had my heat / cool control out and there is a single bulb on the right side of it. The connector however looks way different then your's. Looks like wiring is kinda strange in the YJ. I have a bulb under the dash near the steering wheel, no idea what this is for, needles to say it is not working.
No picture, but I can try to describe it. The wire from the light goes up into the dash (it might splice into something else somewhere; it probably does), and back down to the door buzzer pin on the drivers door, which is why this pin has two connectors in the back of it. (This is about 3/4's, maybe a little further, down the door sill closest to the engine bay). One for the light, one for the buzzer. Passenger side door also has a light hooked up in the same place, but no buzzer. The radio/clock memory and all of the lights (Dome light and two courtesy lights) are in the circuit that corresponds to fuze 16 in the engine bay power box. (It's a mini 10-amp, red.) That's about all I can think of to say, sorry I'm not more help.
The third picture in Eky's post is of either the door buzzer or courtesy light hookup. Not sure which, they are both virtually the same. Two of the others might be for the sound bar, speakers and light use two different connectors similar to those.
that's preatty detailed, thx. I will chase the wire tomorrow. snowing right now. Installed my CB radio today but put a 120v heater in to keep my b... warm. Not too bad then
My door is shut all the time and I'm not getting any heat. Should that door in the pick be open for heat (like in picture 2) or closed (like picture 4)?
Now I'm no Jeep expert by any stretch of the imagination but I believe that box with the flap that your seeing in the pics is just for cool outside air and has nothing to do with the heat. Of course it would have a lot to do if you dont have any becaus eit's gonna flood the cab with ice cold air from the outside if your moving and it's open.
ekytrader, I just went out and looked at my 93 YJ S. My heater and lights all work great. Because my Yj is an S model it didn't have a right side courtesy lamp switch, so I'm thinking that single(yellow w/red stripe)wire connector is for the right side courtesy lamp switch, I'll check that out later today. The other eight prong connector is(and I'm kind of guessing here)for an automotive diagnostic scan tool. Everybody seems to have one(even the AC guys)that goes nowhere. It has a metal clip on it, and mine is clipped to the lip under the dash panel. Those are the best guesses I can come up with. I'll do some research and fire my Jeep up today and let you know about the heater thing. yj93ben
I had that wire in mine, I believe. Just connected to another set of wires, and then stuck behind the glove box...It's for the sound bar speakers, if it's the same wire. Also, I dunno why your's wouldn't have a right side courtesy-mine is a 94 S model, and has a right side courtesy light.
The vent door is cable controlled, so if it's opening on its own, the cable is either broken or disconected. This door should only be open when the defrost/heater/vent control lever is all the way to the right. And has a spring assist to keep it closed. I took some pix under there, and this is pretty much untouched factory wiring. axcept the alarm switch on the right door jam.
I don't know why mine didn't have one(right side courtesy lamp switch), I didn't even have a right side mirror on it from the factory. I got the cheapest model available. Mine is like fleet issued or something.
