Arrow What kind of Stereo do you have in your JEEP?

I just wanted to make a post to see what everyone has in their rigs for the Music. I love my JEEP and Love my music, gotta listen to all that I can to get through the day! I have a 95 and most is stock, I got my System almost done now gonna work on some upgrades. Well here is what I got:
Deck Kenwood KDC-MP435U
Soundbar 4" Kenwood 3 ways (FT Run of Deck)
Rear Kenwood 6X9 5 ways in small boxes (Rear Run of Deck)
Subs Kenwood 10" in Pro-Box
Amp for 10s Kenwood 1000 watt
1.6 Farad Cap, keeps the light dim to nothing
XM Radio Roady 2

Just wanted to see if there was anyone out there that loves their Jeep and Music as much as I love mine!

I have a pioneer cd player with a removable faceplate. I like it but it's 10 years old and the cd's skip more often than not. I would like to find a nice upgrade that can use my mp3 player and doesn't skip when bounced around.

I picked up a Pioneer DEH-2200UB the other day for $99.... iPod, iPhone, USB port.... very nice for the price... Sounds fantastic too.... compared to the stock unit.

JVC motorized deck, 4"x6" pioneers in the dash, 10" pioneer sub, 800watt amp powering that. (Both the sub and amp are bolted down.)

Plenty of sound for me.

I can get you some pics this weekend. I had to actually move the rear seat up about 3 inches for the box to fix, only because the Subs are deep comp ones. If I had a smaller box and subs I would not have had adjusted the seats. Mike

i hope some of you guys are using tuffy boxes, or have hard tops. most of that just sounds highly open to theft. i had a couple of systems in my 95 softop. after a couple of slashes windows (geesh, they unzip with the finger from the outside) and a couple of stolen systems, i put tuffy boxes all through it (tuffy stereo center console and 2 tuffy wheel well top boxes) never had a problem after that. now i have a 90, and i went smart when the radio that was in it stopped working. it is a pioneer tape deck, and some genius mounted tweeters ontop of the dash with jbweld. i was using one of those tape deck converters to use an mp3 player. well, i took the speakers out of teh back, grabbed my self a pair of nice 2.1 pc speakers and a power converter. well, since there was no cig lighter, had a local shop install one (25 bucks well spent). so now i just hook my ipod to the speaker cables through the headphones jack, and the speakers to the power converter. it sounds great, even at freeway speeds. i take the radio (ipod) with me when i leave the car, and if some jackass decides to break into my hard top to steal 50 dollars in speakers and power converter, then i'm out 50 bucks. and now i have an excuse to go get some new pc speaks

I have the least expensive pioneer with Ipod connection (think it was 120.00) I have an old iphone installed in the console, and stock speakers (i assume, as I haven't removed the covers.)

I figure most won't waste the time to steal it. But I do lock up the face plate in my tuffy console when I'm in less than desirable locations.

i got the sound pod things from quadratec. they are really nice, but the speakers they send with it are crap. would suggest not using theirs. got the pod that installs in the middle front in front of the shifter and the two 6x9 pods that drop in the rear between the bar and the wheel well. add that to the soundbar on top, and it's all good. have a sony x-plod dash unit and that powers the front pod. the sound bar and 6x9's are powered with a 50 watt or so alpine amp. all works well.

When I've installed systems into jeeps, I generally get a box that fit's behind the seat. either something off the shelf or have it custom built. Not that hard. I've but metal brackets on the bottom of the box and bolted it to the Jeep via existing holes, depending on model of course. This helps against theft , but like I tell everyone, take pictures, write down serial numbers, etc, of everything you have. If someone wants it, they'll get it. You paid for it, you pay insurance, make it work for you.
Depending on the amp, I try and mount it to the box via a terminal block for easy hook up and removal or somewhere in the Jeep. I prefer closer to the front due to power loss of B+ but space is limited. I've mounted them inside the box before and installed a fan controlled by an IGBT to keep it cool. most people only twiddle with their amps for the first few days and then don't mess with it anymore.
Mounting them under the seat like most people do works but it cause it to go into thermal cutoff way too quickly. I did some test with various thermocouples to monitor temperature verses time with amps in different locations.

I have a Kenwood KDC-X994

It's ok, has a ton of features, things I like a lot about it and a few that they really dropped the ball on, like only 6 preset stations regardless os which band you're on AM/FM/Satellite all share six lowly presets. It's retarded.

Overall it's a good unit, but if I had my druthers, I'd have just a stock head unit with a USB port on it.
It would certainly be better suited for an auto than a Jeep.

As far as protection - I carry a $50 deductible on my comp insurance.
screw it, if someone wants it, they're going to get it.

Tuffy 033-01 - Tuffy Stereo Security Console (10" Wide) for 76-90 Jeep CJ-5, CJ-7, CJ-8 Scrambler & Wrangler YJ - Quadratec
stereo mounts inside the console. it was nice when i had it.

Tuffy 030-01 - Tuffy Security Products Wheel Well Storage Lockbox for 76-91 Jeep® CJ-5, CJ-7, CJ-8 Scrambler & Wrangler YJ - Quadratec mine were taller than these, and had a front compartment to mount 6x9's in. not sure if tuffy still makes those.

of course, easy cheap way, and can sound just as good is to do this
Walmart.com: XoVision XO400, 400W Power Inverter with 2 AC Outlets & Gameport: Audio
matched with something like this Micro Center - Altec Lansing VS2521 Speaker System VS2521

the key to the speakers is finding ones with square satellites, that you can wedge under the front of the back seat, and a sub that doesn't freak out when bass hits it. after that, you are good. take your mp3 player to the store, if they have them setup for a try out, see if you can test them out

works like a charm.

Hope these pics went in. Got some decent pictures, but the HTC doesn't have a flash! Everything is mounted down, Have a hard top, keep a good eye on the Jeep and work in a secured location so don't have to worry there! aslo have a car alarm. Also have a 64g touch that I have most of my music on. Has great Bass, run the speakers off the deck and all 1000 watts to the subs, cut down the Bass on the deck so I use the rest of the speakers as the highs and mids, have the bass on the amp turned up a little.

Junk Wal-Fart AM/FM/CD with a Siruis Sat receiver. Crank it up to 44 and I can hear it on the interstate... The head came with the Jeep - I added the sat radio... but it works for me

No radio in the 1960.
The 1980 has a "Sparkomatic." I don't lose a lot of sleep over it being stolen.

I use my headphones a lot. I always wonder if I'll get pulled over for that. It's wrong to listne to music on your headphones, BUT they are the same headphones I use to talk on my phone. and you're supposed to use them for that. It's complicated!

Kenwood KDC-MP145CR am/fm/cd/mp3/aux, with the 200W Speaker bar with 6 speakers & dome light from Rugged Ridge. Also replaced the 2 factory speakers in the dash with 4x6 100W Kenwoods as well... sounds NICE! I was planning on replacing the sound bar speakers with kenwoods, but they actually do pretty well.

Seems like marine audio components would be a good choice for these jeeps. Anyone gone that way with their sound setup?

Sony Xplode CD with Ipod connect, Two 10" subs in the back that have neon blue lights that go with the music (<--it was free, that's all you need to know), 6 speaker soundbar and wicked good music on my ipod touch to keep me distracted. I think the Sony head unit puts out about 50 watts of power so no amp and virtually no trunk space other than for my jack and tools and soft top sides.
