so you dont slam down on a rock, it will just slide off with a stinger, and to keep you from rolling

I personally do not like the look but if yer gonna be driving off cliff faces it can be usefull! They would have to surgically remove the seat from my arse if I was in a position like pictured!!!

If you don't have a full rollcage, they can also help keep you from being crushed (so long as it's build correctly). A stock jeep is pretty strong as is, but why risk it?

not a wrangler but a buddys toyota drove off an embankment and nosedived, unfortunately he rolled, but the stinger saved his front end enough that we were able to recover the vehicle and he drove out.

A stinger also can help you climb up, or climb down an embankment. As the stinger serves as a "slide" for your Jeep, if you are trying to approach a severely steep embankment, or back off of one (If that makes sense).

^ yup

use it to push your way up a hill
stop you from flipping forward

and it also dubs as a deer deflector so they don't end up on your lap if you hit one at a higher rate of speed.
