Stick with the last, Swamper Radials if ya don't mind the coin.

Thornbirds are junk and you probably arn't going to want to run bias-ply on the road.
Just another sugestion, find yourself another set of rims for the Swampers and swap over to them when your are heading for the trail. If I recall you mentioned somewhere it was about 2 hrs to get to the cliffs. Thats quite a bit of pavement wear to be putting on them at $160 a crack.

You will have to make sacrifices one way or the other, the best mud tire that you have there is the TSL bias, but you will get better wear out of the radials on the street.

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

Just go to a farm and barn(fleet) and pick up 4 white/black spoke steelies. your going to spend as much on that type of (all4) rims as you will as you will on 1 tire.
