I have this whining coming from my 88 yj, it only sounds when the engine winds down, could it be a vacuum? Please help its getting very annoying.

Is is a whine or a sequel? if its a sequel while idle or at rest it is more than likely the connection point where the exhaust manifold merges with the exhaust pipe. Tighten the two bolts, don't overtightened them and it will stop. man that's an annoying noise. The low idle shakes the exhaust very slightly, but enough to cause this sequel and and or rubbing where you don't want it.

Mine was doing that, loosened the bolts and moved the exhaust pipe about 1' away, no more noise, can't figure out how it moved in the first place though, must not have had it tight enough I guess.

Where does the whine sound like it is coming from?
