Why have just one...

So, guy I know down here has a '90 that's matched up to my '89 as far as it's a 5-speed, 4.2L and is has a sound engine, recently rebuilt clutch and most stuff on it works.

If I was looking at using it as a donor and/or doing a build on it, is there anything I need to consider as far as compatibility is concerned with the '89?

Rachel

the transes may be different. right around that time one may have the ax15 and the other could have the peugot peice of junk. thats the only thing to consider. otherwise you can play legos with them, anything and everything can go back and forth.

Yeah the 90 will have the AX15, & the 89 will have the AX15 only if it was built after AMC switched from the BA-10 about mid production year.

As far as owning & running both, hey if one is down for repairs then you don't have to drive a mini-van!

Also you could loan one (just for the day) to a friend & have a much safer wheeling trip. Always better to bring at least two 4WD vehicles, so one can pull the other out if it gets stuck.

I was thinking I could use the red one to run to the parts store AGAIN when I have the white one torn apart

I'll have to see how the red one looks up close to see if it's a candidate for a build or if it'll just be the 'spare' Jeep.

The guy is selling it because he's tired of the hassle of owning a Jeep. I think he'll be getting a minivan to replace it.

I'm not too concerned about the big stuff as most of that is sound on Zilla, but if I want to see if switch xyz or gauge kqr is the issue, I can swap it all to test some theories before I buy something that doesn't fix the problem.

A major issue with living on a rock in the middle of the sea is I have to order just about everything so it's a week before I find out that the thing I thought was broken wasn't it. Then ANOTHER week to see if something else works. Two Jeep households are pretty common around these here parts.

Plus, I have the added bonus of a vehicle for visitors to drive so I don't have to let them drive the good Jeep!

Well hopefully we can help you diagnose your problems, so you end up buying the right fix on the first try!

I've been trying to trade my mini van in for an XJ, but the wife & kids like the van.
I may have to street three vehicles at some point!
