Winch mounting questions

OK, so I've got the Warn M8000 on the way (from 4WD HDW) to mount onto my 95 YJ with a stock front bumper. First off, do I need to order the solenoid bracket separately?

Second, I have the luxury of having a friend to fab up a mounting plate for me gratis...(he owes me one, let's say)...but I need the specs for the plate if anyone has them. I assume the plate mounts to the frame/bumper at the tow hook points, but a sketch or list of dimensions would rock. Can anyone help?

I have connected mine directly to the battery...mine came with the controller unit which has solenoid in it.

I personally think buying a winch mount plate would be cheaper. I bought one for $50. So essentially I had spent $350 including shipping for Smittybilt 8K winch.

you actually need two winches. one in front and one in back. that way you can lift and invert your jeep to get all the junk out.

Get a winch mounting plate. Some come with the solenoid bracket and some require you to purchase it separately.

I plan to get a mounting plate....I'm having one made. I was looking for some sort of sketch or dimensions anyone may have, but I can probably just draw something up on my own now that the winch has arrived (holy heavy box Batman!).

Oh, and Chief, here in Michigan all we need to do is roll our windows down and go 20 mph.....roads are so bad everything bounces out...

Try the Warn site, sometimes they show the dimensions and pics of the plates etc. I got a sketch with dimensions off the superwinch site once for a 4 wheeler.

might want to check the warranty on the winch. Some winch warranty's are void if they are on a self made plate. I know that is how my Smittybilt 10K was. If you plan to make one use cardboard to make a template. You have to get the holes just right with no play in them or it will weaken the pulling power. Personally It's quicker to just buy one and not have to worry about weaken the winch's pulling ability.
