XJ t case in YJ ?????

I have a slight problem my t case (np 231j) in my 94 yj wrangler with a 2.5L with a automatic trans just took a crap and none of the junk yards have any wranglers but they have cherokees my question is will a t case from a cherokee work in my yj did they make yjs and xj with the same trans

What is it doing? You might be able to combine two and make it work. I know the rear half of an XJ will fit the rear of mine.

first my 4 hi just doesn't engage at all but 4 low will and just moving regular it fine but under a load (in some mudd ) it grinds like crazy it dont make any noise in 2wd only in 4

might be two different things one it could be the linkage to the t case got bumped and is not letting the fork go all the way into the 4hi setting.
two it could be that the fork is wore out and thats why its grinding ,but i think i would start at the linkage before tearing the t case apart
