YJ hardtop installation

My daughter purchased a 91 Wrangler Softtop this spring. From what I can tell, it has never had a hardtop installed on it. (No screw holes in the top of the windshield frame.)

I recently purchased a used hardtop, and I'm looking for step by step instructions for properly removing the softtop components and installing the hardtop.

Is there a wiring harness change that has to be made to connect the hardtop defroster/wiper?

I spent some time searching the web, and didn't find anything that addressed my specific situation. Any pointers or advise greatly appreciated

Thanks, Jim

Look beneath the carpet on the drivers side by the rear tailight. You should be able to locate the harness there. That's the harness for the hardtop. It'll probably be in the vicinity of the rear part of the roll bar mounting under the carpet or along the wall there.

if it never had a hard top on it it might not have the wiring for the defroster or the wiper but if the switchs are on the dash then the wires should be there remove the soft top remove the beltrails on the sides along with the top frame and bows remove the j channel off of the windshield and carefully put the hard top up on the jeep when both sides and tailgate are lined up bolt it down drill out the holes for the top to mount to the windshield and put some screws in and your all set till spring

No switches

Come to think of it, there are no switches in the dash for either the wiper or defroster, so I'm bettin the wiring is not there.

Perhaps a trip to the junkyard is in order.

Will have to look when the daughter comes home.

Thanks for the removal and installation steps.

When I put a hardtop on mine the washer fluid resivoir had an extra outlet on it so I ran a piece of tube from under the resevoir back to the wiper motor, my jeep had the wiring harness but the hardtop did not, so I hooked up two toggle switches, one for the washer fluid and one for the wiper blade, it worked out pretty well.

It should be there whether you have ever had a hardtop or not. If it isn't there, push your Jeep off into a lake and purchase a new one.
