i drive a rebuilt stock 2.5 4 cylinder. jeep build is completely stock.

what i did was ran my engine till gas tank read a very low EMPTY. Next i put in $20 which is equivalnt to 6.002 gallons. Also is a very little over half tank. THEN i clear the 'mile meter' to zero.

first time i was riding the jeep like i have been. going for 0 to aprox. 3000 rpm and switching. i got 3 different readings on average 13.3 miles to a gallon on street.

But after my last fill up i did at the gas station, i decided only to ride no higher then 2000 rpm. my theory was to get 1/3 more miles to a gallon. i did not run empty yet but already marked at 1/4 tank, 3 gallons. The 'mile meter' reads 86 miles! so i figure 86/3= 28.666.

so running about 29 miles to a gallon is nice change. also is about 11 cents to a mile.

You are working too hard to fimd your MPG...... Fill up the tank to the top. Zero out your trip odometer. When tank gets low re-fill to the top. Take mileage from trip odometer and divide by the amount aof fuel (gallons) that you put in at the second fill-up and the result is your MPG and I doubt it will be anywhere neer 28mpg

By the way I have 97 4.0 w/3sp auto, 4" lift 33X12.50 mud tires and get around 14-15mpg.

I have a 4.0L 4cylinder engine stock w/ 30" tires 5spd and get around 12-15mpg on the highway and city. Though i do tend to drive fast and such. I also haven't tested JUST highway or JUST city soo that's a mix of both.

i have a 2.5L w/ 139,000 miles. i generally don't rap my gears out past 2500rpm, and i can pull off probably 250 miles to 15 gallons. so...about 16-17 mpg estimated. thats with 235/75/15 mud tires and steel wheels.

got a 95' w/ 4banger, an a 20 gallon tank. Filled to the brim then ran till damn near empty, and the odometer read 387 miles. Did it on two occasions, also I'm never in rush when I'm driving. So that works out to about 18.5 mpg.

I have a '95 with 2.5L.
30x9.50x15 BFG Long Trail T/A.

Comparing my GPS speed to speedo, My speedo is off by about 9%.
with my corrected miles per tank, I'm getting about 18 mpg.

29 mpg ?!?!? Can't be bro....

I'm a stock 2.5 with 4" lift, 31" claws on MT classic locks.
Air cleaner & plugs about 8 months ago
Trans/Tcase fluid change 3-4 months ago & oil about every 1000

With soft top - Around town (not trail), I try to shift within idiot light suggestion and I do [on hgwy] use 5th gear.

I didn't run my hard top this winter - the comfort ain't worth the gas (to me anyway)

My last calculation was about 12.5 per gallon.

I do get a marked increase (so much I thought my gauage was broke) topless - I'll follow this thread
