YJ owner roll call

Well, lets see. I have a 1994 Wrangler Sahara. The stats are stock for the most part. I have to do a lot of highway driving, so I can't do much with the suspension. I have 31s squeezed under it and they do pretty well for what I need. it's forest green and if any one knows where to get any spray touch up paint, I would appreciate knowing the source. Duplicolor doesn't carry it.

I don't do any rock crawling, I don't purposely seek out mud, usually. In Mississippi, having a 4x4 is just part of life. I do take trail rides and such, but I don't go looking to tear it up. It's my best friend, but don't tell my wife.

I just want to know who the other YJers are. You don't have to throw in details. I was just trying to start a dialogue. I'd like to see lots of action on this forum.

I don't care about reading about these soccer mom jeeps that they have on the other forums. This is a forum just for us. That's cool so don't waste it.

I have an 87 with a growing list of upgrades. A Jeep is a blast to own in any form. I have been building mine incrementally as the budget allows (slower than I would like). sooner or later the bug will bite you and you will want some lift, more power, bigger tires, lockers, etc., etc. I started just like you with 31's. They are a tight fit. I would get some extended shackles just to reduce the tire rub. They are pretty cheap and easy to install, also easy to make yourself. Enjoy your best friend....I won't tell your wife.

Hey daddyjeep. I really don't have any problems with tire rub. Only on a tight turning radius. I keep saying I am going to adjust the stops, but I never get around to it. I have done a few upgrades to it, but nothing major. I have an exhaust leak that I need to take care of before I do anything. After that, I have a few things I want to redo that was repaired when she rolled once upon a time. Mainly paint. The painter did a crappy job on the replacement hood and windshield frame.

I just bought my 1995 YJ March 5th of this year. I put the stock tires back on it and plan on keeping it that way. It is really fun to drive. I will be going on some WMA trails in Georgia eventually.

93 Yj

I agree with daddyjeep in regards to the incremental upgrades. I have a 93, last year put the Old Man Emu 2.5" lift on, this year added 30 x 9.5 BFG's (wanted to do 31's but got an excellent deal on e-bay for the 30's).

I also have picked up 'trinkets' along the way: roll bar grab handles, SS stone guards for lights, 'black' SS hood kit, grant 4x4 rear bumper and tire carrier w/ hi-lift mount, Smittybilt seat vests, side view mirror that mounts in door hinge when doors are off, and my first mod which was to remove the 'air restrictor' between the air filter and throttle body.

I think this year will see a receiver hitch carry-all. Next year will be a rack system and a switchable (electric / air) locker for the rear $$$$$$.

Last Sunday I was replacing the passenger side front u-joint and the wife says "when are you going to stop tinkering with that Jeep?"

I've got an 89YJ thats still pretty stock. Just a Weber carb, a Skyjacker 2.5" Dble Mil lift, 31s, a brush/grille gauard combo, Herculined interior, and a SuperTop/bikini top since I wrecked the hard top when I rolled it. If it wasn't for being broke and in school I'd get more done on it and get out to play more but time and money are in short supply right now. Hopefully I'll be swapping some TJ flares on shortly, and then dumping the front fenders for some tube fenders. I'm hoping to squeeze 33s or maybe 35s on with those mods and a 1" body lift. Of course I need to find some axles to swap in too since the stock ones won't hold up to much if I can fit 35s.

I came over from the swb.off-road.com forum by the way.

Wow! I found this old thread that is a year and a half old. At the time, I was just trying to generate conversation, but it would be cool to get it going for old times sake.

Yall wanna continue the YJ owner roll call?

I've had my 94 for a year and a half. She had a good 1st year with 2-1/2" lift, 31's, spare/can carrier, Tuffy boxes, seats, WIlderness rack and lights.

This second year we're spending more time running logging roads and camping with it than working on it.

Someday hope to add a winch and swap out the rotten RE Doetch shocks.

Not really. Was looking for something else and found it. It's possibly the first thread I created. Either that was or the YJ mileage thread was.

I bought my 94 YJ after reading a bunch of JP magazine's while deployed to Afghanistan with the army, when I bought the jeep it had a 2.5 inch spring lift and 33inch all terrains, the tires had rubbed the stock painted fender flairs and basically looked like crap. In order these are the mods my jeep has seen
1. I removed the crappy aftermarket Nerf bars, stock Sahara side steps
2. I replaced the worn out all terrains with 33inch buckshot's

3. to stiffen up the body and add protection I installed warn rock sliders

4. I installed a 2inch body lift

5. I removed the stock painted fender flares and replaced them with OEM style black ones

6. I installed a Aussie locker in front axle

7. I tore out carpet and applied durabak coating

8. I removed both track bars and sway bars

9. I installed 2inch lift shackles

10. I replaced the aluminum rims with black steel 15X10 rims

11. I installed a 7500lb winch with optima red top battery

12. I installed flowmaster cat back exhaust.

I plan on taking the jeep off the road after the first of the year and doing a springover conversion, and at the same time installing a slip yoke eliminator kit, cv drive shaft and ford 8.8 rear end outta a 99 explorer. also at the same time I will be re gearing to 4.56 and adding 35inch buckshot's.
The best part about my jeep is I have never had it in a shop I have done every single mod to it myself without prior mechanical experience I just bought a set of husky tools and used write ups off of the Internet to complete my projects,
Building a custom jeep is not hard it just takes a little time and a lot of money.

I'll jump in. I have a 92 YJ that I acquired from a friend in bone-stock condition. So far, I've done a mixed lift (shackles and a spring pack rebuild adding a new, long, leaf) and changed to poly bushings; replaced the tow hooks and added a rear hitch. Next spring, I'll be adding the JKS Quicker Disconnects and some traction bars.

Being a working ranch Jeep, most of my off-roading is over mildly uneven terrain. I need the Jeep to flex (and not tip and WHAM! me into all the trees around here) but still be fun to drive to the feed store in town. Mudding and rock-crawling happens but in a very limited manner. My winch is a small one and used more for pulling deadfall out than for pulling the Jeep anywhere.

'95 Rio Grande. Basically stock, but running 31 x 10.50 BFG at's. I use it for a daily driver and hunting and fishing trips. I'll probably put 8-9k per year on it. It currently has 115k. Most of my upgrades to this point have been cosmetic. New lockable console, bikini, windjammer and duster, hi lift jack, cowl vent scoop to help with air movement in the cockpit, aluminum wheels from a 89 xj, front grill guard with lights.

Ok...I'll play. 15 years ago I went through a pair of Jeep CJ-7's with 304s, one got wrecked and the other I sold soon after getting married. Flash foward those 15 years and we are an all Jeep family after converting the missus. She drives a stock (at the moment) 03 Liberty. Me? 89 YJ with 31x10.5's, 4.2 liter rebuilt 6 with Weber carb, rebuilt Auto tranny, Rough Country add a leaf suspension kit and 5 light bar across the top.

This is too cool. I have a little red 89 YJ. It has nearly stock tires, and nearly stock look. It has 2.7 liters on each side, fuel injected, a small monster STAK 3 speed transfer case, a Dana 60 front axle, a GM 14 bolt rear end. Both of which have ARB air lockers, and 456 gears. A 3 link front suspension, with a four link rear suspension. All of this is sitting on a stretched out wheel base of 106", on coilovers. Just your ordinary, run of the mill, YJ. It is by far my favorite toy, even when compared to our Rubicon. This is a toy that has the poison spyder full roll cage, comp. rear corners, and flat tube fendors. And I wrapped it up with custom racing, bucket seats. Now I work long hours too replace the couple of dollars spent on this wild project......lol.

Sounds very similar to my Green 94, until you get to the second sentence and beyond... :o

Well my 87 YJ is on the road. I just spent $1600 to get all the emmission stuff put back on and get it running so it will pass. Guess what it failed twice. So as of the 15th it will be parked again until after the first of the year when the emmissions tests go away. I still need to get rid or the after market elec. fuel pump and hook up the OEM pump. I think the elec. is putting out too much fuel and causing it to run too rich and flood eaisly.

That is exactly why I upgraded to fuel injection. Mine wouldn't pass either and it only cost me $1200. With the newer technology a lot of the vaccuum operated systems aren't required anymore. The computer does all the work.

Where did you get the fuel injection. The local 4X4 shop wants $3000 to do the conversion. The Jeep isn't worth that much but then again what Jeep is worth how much upgrades are in it. I am talking dollar wise of course. Ability to go dang near anywhere = PRICELESS!

How do I save that as a tag line?
