YJ Uppers

I recently bought a set of half doors & uppers for my TJ.
It's starting to look like the seller sold me doors for a TJ, but uppers for a YJ.

For those of you that have YJ uppers, can you post a few pictures of those uppers (from the inside and the outside)?

I want to find out whether or not I got screwed.
Thanks.

Is there a tag tucked in somewhere on the inside, with a model number, perhaps?

The YJ OEM frames have squared off corners like the picture below. Not sure about the frames for the Bestop Supertops, those may have rounded corners like the TJ frames. I know that TJ uppers won't fit on a YJ half door without some modification, the pegs are not in the same place. YJ owners commonly modify TJ uppers to use on their half doors in order to fit a hardtop.

The ones I have don't really fit my TJ, but they DO have the rounded edges.

Rounded corners should either be factory TJ or besttop uppers for a YJ. As far as the fitment goes, soft doors seem to have some variances.

I am new to the "soft uppers" world.

Would either one have any markings on them?

Idk about markings, but the pins that go in the top of the door are placed differently. If your uppers drop right into your doors, and your doors are indeed from a TJ, then I'll say they are TJ uppers. If they got into the holes, hey you might have YJ uppers.

I suppose the next thing for me to do is to remove the fabric from the metal frame, then place the frame into the half door by itself, just to see how the frame fits. Or, maybe to see where it DOESN't fit.

The 3 poles (that you line up with the door) fit if you do a little jiggling & forcing.

Are they supposed to be that way? Or, are they supposed to just drop into the holes?

Well, NOW I know why my uppers don't fit.

I started thinking that maybe the fabric was not on properly, & was somehow preventing the uppers to not fit right. After all, the fabric looked like it was on the framework kinda crooked.

So I started unzipping & un-velcroing the fabric.
And what did I find?

At the bottom of the framework, where there is supposed to be a metal flatbar, I saw a lot of rust. I saw where the PO wrapped gray tape around the flatbar, I guess trying to keep it together, long enough to make the sale.

When you buy from Craigslist, it's always a roll of the dice.

I wanted the half doors, & the uppers, as well.
But, I kinda wanted the half doors more.

Oh well.
Lesson learned.

The fabric still looks pretty good. Zippers work. The passenger window is a little hazy, but it'll do.

So now I guess I'll be looking for the upper frames.

In the 3rd picture, you can see where the metal flatbar is completely gone.

It appears that the frames & the fabric ARE for a TJ.
Just gotta get new frames.
