I noticed in a post someone suggested using TJ flares. Can you point to any pictures of TJ flares installed on a YJ?
I want some bigger flares to cover over the 12.5" wide tires, but I don't want to spend $500 to do so. We're going to camo wrap them, so it doesn't really matter what color or how they look.
A stock TJ flare isn't any wider than a stock YJ flare.
What the TJ flare does is open up the wheel well opening so that the tire doesn't rub.
The problem that you have isn't the fact that you are running a 12.5" wide tire. It is the back spacing on your wheels. Notice the difference between yours and Tom's and the tire width is the same.
Your alternative if you are keeping those wheels is to break down and buy the $500 flare set.
I measured how much tread extends past the fender, and it is about 7".
I believe a 7" fender flare would cover it.
I believe I have a 10" wheel with a 3.5" BS. I could swap to a 4.5" BS and gain 1" and then need 6" flares. Not sure if that is worth it. But, I want to camo the wheels anyway, and thus, don't much care what wheel we have...
The price is pretty low, which makes me concerned about quality, but they have some good reviews. And it seems that I should be able to install them with the same process as described for the TJ flares.
I don't see any that I'd consider reasonable. I actually do not have a space problem, I just want to cover more of the tire. Funny as it is, driving in the rain looks like a giant water sprayer! ha!
