1975 CJ7 Questions about buying

I am looking to buy a wrangler. Looking at a 1994 YJ with a 4cyl and 122k. Its nice but not sure if I want to get into it

This has caught my eye. 1975 CJ-7

1975 Fiberglass CJ-7

Plain but looks to be in good shape. Good canidate for some minor updates. Any words of widom on owning these, How is the 258 as a motor? Things I should look for when buying an older CJ.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Well for starters is a cj-5 not a 7. 258 is great engine. 3 speed I would guess would be the t-150.. decent unit. should be model 20 t-case.. not sure if 75 model has drum brakes in the front or not. Rear is either dana 44 or model 20. My only concern is the fiber body. I just don't care for them for a jeep that see's off road use as things tend to rip out of fiber glass, seat belt anchors, roll bars etc, even if anchored in wood or metal plates.

I like CJ's and own one and a half right now. They are great toys. So if you're thinking of weekend fun, sure. If you're thinking "car substitute" maybe not so much.

They're slow. They handle poorly. The defrost works, but it works like an asthmatic hamster. A '75 CJ5 is a cool vehicle. But not a great daily driver.

If you go test drive one on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and you fall in love with it, just try to remember what it's like in February.

Shes a beauty! Sure, CJs handle like crap and seldom have working heat but thats just how true Jeeps are and you learn to get used to it. Your defroster is the towel on your dash!

Wow, I forgot all about that. I always used to keep a small towel in my glove box just for that reason.
