1984 CJ7 Auto to Manual Swap

Hey guys.

Just bought my 84' CJ7 Automatic. It has the Inline 6 258. I kind of settled since I really wanted a manual but was having a hard time find one that was in decent shape. So now I plan on swapping out the auto for a manual. I really have no experience in doing this, so I'm looking for some help. Has anyone on here attempted this? I saw some other threads for the newer models but not for the CJ.

Obviously, I'd like a clean and simple install as possible but I know there will be some obstacles to overcome. A few questions:

What kind of manual will be the best match for my set-up?
Where should I look for a rebuilt/re-manufactured transmission?
Are there any other things to consider when tackling a project like this?
Would anyone like to volunteer to do this for me?

Awesome. I actually picked up the T5 transmission, Bell housing, and Flywheel last night! A guy had them on Craigslist for $100!! He even threw in the shifter and a steering column for another $40. I think I got a steal. Everything looks to be in good shape.

T5 should bolt right up. As with anything mechanical you get from craigslist I'd tear it apart and check it out before you install.

Looking forward to hearing how this goes!

Great score. The bells are bring over $100 alone on ebay.

T5's are weak so I'd look it over good. I run one behind my v8 but I keep a spare.

Now you just need some pedals.

Auto Shifter Linkage

Natty Joe,
I saw that you swapped out an auto tranny. I am looking for the shifter linkage for auto. Please let me know if you have that linkage.
Thanks
Chris
