77 CJ7 needs engine, transmission, ect

I'm looking at a 1977 CJ7 that has had a lot of work done, but does still need the main parts like engine, transmission, transfer case, ect.... How much do these typically cost, and can you find them used? If so where could I look to get an idea price wise.

There are plenty of parts available. Price and condition vary as bunch though.

Do you know what the factory drivetrain was?

I'm gonna bet it was either a 258 or 304 with a t150 (3 speed).

You should be able to get the whole package for $500 or so for a 258/T150/dana20 in decent and usable condition.

That sounds awful cheap to me....a good 258 will bring 600-800 here by itself

Yeah, we may just be lucky up here because 258s are routinely 2-300 in good running condition. I bought a lower-miles one with a brand-new Weber carb on it for $375 a month or so back, which is basically like getting a free engine with the purchase of a Weber.

Back in April I picked up a good T150+Dana 20 for $75, and a bellhousing+fork for it for $50.
