79 CJ7 - looking at buying. Advice/thoughts welcome.

Hey guys, a fellow who lives a street over from me just listed his CJ7 for sale. It has some questionable body issues which have me worried...Do you think this Jeep is 100% bondo? I kinda do....and that's my concern.

I haven't driven it yet, so I don't know if I'll love it or hate it. I miss my TJ daily....

FWIW he's asking 8500.00

Here's pics of the problem areas I noticed first thing. Oh and one of the winch. I don't recognize this model.

This would be a toy, not a Daily Driver. I'm just curious about other things I should look at before heading to the bank.

This entire back 1/4 looks a bit rough and bondo...

The other rear corner..

Drivers front fender

leaf bushing is trash

unknown Winch

after a bit of reading, I think his price is a bit optimistic, given the fact it likely needs a new body. I see where a tub can be bought for 3k. That would make this thing cost me more than I'll ever be able to sell for.

It has the 304 and Automatic, which I really like...and the frame appears to be in good shape

As I kick this one around in my head I can't help but to wonder if the body is fiberglass. I guess I need to sneak over there with a magnet.

2 scenarios as I see it.
1 - Fiberglass with some damage
2 - Metal with large "speed holes" added by nature over the years....then poorly filled in with bondo.

Dude, you can't get discouraged. I actually looked for over a year, and that's the God's honest truth, over a year, before I found my 84 CJ7. Keep in mind a few things when you're looking at any CJ's
#1) THEY ARE OLD. you're going to have some issues. Unless your wallet has no bottom and you can afford one that has been redone from the ground up.
#2) Be patient. The right jeep is out there, you just have to be willing NOT to settle for any old jeep. If there is something you don't like about a jeep and it's not an easy/cheap fix, then walk away.
#3) Unless you're fabricator, painter, and mechanic, you're almost always going to end up with more in it than you'll ever get out of it. It's very rear for someone to say that they made money on selling there CJ. LOL
Anyway, it's just my two cents worth, I hope it helps.

Thank you. I'm looking about. Ironically I wasn't looking for a CJ7. I've just looked at this one every day for a cpl yrs..and then saw it for sale. I'm actually on the hunt for an LJ rubi....but I'm trying to decide if I want to cough up the cash those cost....if not I may go CJ7, or TJ....It's just amazing to me what some people want for Jeeps. Local DLR wants 10k for a 98 with 210k on it....for example. By the sounds of it I should have asked a few k more for my 01. ha.
