Just got my 79 .....only 66k original miles!!!! All the little bells and whistles on this Jeep still work; interior light, under hood light, old school Ravelco style hood lock and starter interrupt. Heck...even the smog pump on this thing still works!

-CJ7 has a longer wheelbase and a much larger and more friendly door opening.
7 is a bit more stable... 5's like to lay over more than 7's (the difference is the frame, a -CJ-7 frame widens out in back to allow the springs to sit farther outboard... the DJ-5 was made a little more stable by outboarding the springs in the same manner without widening the frame...)
-7's originally came with hard tops, and 5's didn't

everything else is just differences in the drivetrain (I think)

my new to me cj5

Well i have finally taken the plunge into the jeep addiction. Here is my new cj5 project. It is a 1975 cj5. let me know what you think and i am open to ideas of what to do with it. It will be a strictly off-road/deer lease vehicle.
BTW...it runs and i paid 500.00 as it sits.

That attached shooting chair is not a great idea on a CJ... They get lazy and tend to fall over enough without jacking up the cog... Be careful driving with that

Sweet buy though. Can't beat a sub $1k jeep

I am cutting the high rack seat down 11 inches. It was put on useing pipe unions so i can loosen it up and pull it off at anytime. It will mostly be used for driving around hunting hogs at night...

Found a couple old pics last time I was back home. These pictures are circa 1995-ish, this was my 1981 CJ-5 with a Chevy 350. I miss it!

This is the 1971 CJ5 that I used to drive in High School. Pic was taken in 1980.
It had the manual-lock hubs, which were a pain. In cold weather they would sometimes freeze overnight, and I wouldn't be able to engage in 4wd until they defrosted.
