I'm not sure. Thinking about buying a CJ5 that looks to be in decent condition. but idk how expensive parts are for these types of jeeps in general. I wouldnt want something to break and then be shocked at the price to fix it. Things are bound to break in an 81.

As a general statement I would only say that everything was pretty simple in 81 compared to the newer models. That should equate to less money in general, but I suppose it all depends on just what you need to do.
I had a great time rebuilding my 80. I spent lots of time and money, but it was a lot of fun. Going to get her out a bit more this year!
