Cj3b

I've always like the looks of the old CJ3B and have the idea bouncing around about a project CJ3B Frankenstein TJ. Any comments about taking a rolled/total TJ and fitting a CJ3B tub and fenders on it? I'd have the best of the old look and the drive-ability of the TJ. Any thoughts on that?

I like the old flatties too but that isn't a CJ3b. The CJ3b has the high hood.

That could be I don't know what year the CJ3's started, I think the 3B came along in 1955-56.

Coolbreeze's pic is highly likely a 2A-it does have both the 2A windshield and the top hoop brackets on the tub. First year for 3B's was 1953 with domestic production through 64 and I believe export to 68. Most of the 3B production occured in 53 and 54, with production numbers considerably lower after the introduction of the CJ5 in 55. Probably a wealth of info on the 3B Page. As to the original post, the TJ wheelbase is 93.4", all the flatties, including the 3B, are 80". To make it work and look decent, there is going to need to be a big stretch job on the 3B tub-think CJ6 in a flatty.

You know Duffer, I've seen a couple of pictures of the 'High Hood' with what appeared to be a stretched C6 type of length but I've never seen one personally. I think they quit making the CJ3b right around 1955. I know Mitisubsi bought up some Willys rights about then and produced some with both gas and diesel motors up until about 1988. I'd like to find one of those.

Those newer ones were manufactured/sold just for the overseas market. It's very expensive to import vehicles.

3a from 1948-53...had solid windshield glass..windshield frame was thin on top and tall on bottom like the 2a..had low hood....
3b built from 1953-64..also had solid glass but the frame was shaped like the early cj5's..had tall hood
thats a 2a pictured

2A "highly likely" but when it comes to flatties, I have learned that a positive ID usually comes down to the VIN tag and the number stamped on the frame. Too many windshield, grill, and tub swaps. From a functional standpoint, the 3A windshield swap to a 2A/GPW/MB is/was a bolt-on improvement, but I'm also sure the reverse happened when the "right" parts were just on-hand.

Here is the link to the 3B production data
