CJ5 vs M38A1

I recently started building models of all 7-slat jeeps but not able to find everything in the 1/25 scale I have chosen. So, I have to make some of the versions. Right now I am getting ready to start an M38A1 but they don't exist as a kit so have to modify a CJ5. Remember, these are only 6" long so the 24v electric system difference is irrelevent! But other than windshield are there any differences I need to do?

best I remember without looking in my book..the a1 didn't have a tailgate and the spare was on the back...5 had tailgate and spare on side..lights were probably different...an old chiltons service manual will tell you

I keep seeing that the front springs were reversed; does that imply that the axle is further forward?

yes, front shackles were reversed but that would probably make little difference..the things I listed before were different and also the a1 had the divider down the center of the windshield..also the switches and gauges were different..front bumper was shorter..gas cap and filler were larger..headlights were behind the grill..light on front fender..a lot of other little differences
