CJ7 1981 worth?

I am thinking about owning my first jeep, a CJ7 1981 with a 4.2L inline 6, 4 speed manual. however the guy wants to make me pay $5,000 for it. The body work and paint is pretty good with only a few rust spots. It was sitting down since 2011, however it needs a few engine parts, e.g. Engine mounts, bolts, washers and nuts and a power steering belt. How much do you think I should pay for this? By the way I haven't heard it started as yet, however I am going in a few days to have a mechanic help me to start it because the oil filter is completely finished. So I am going hoping it will start.

Dont get excited, there are tons of these things out there i have 81 with 63,000
miles needs paint that's it everything else all factory orig even carpet and seats
i think 5g based on your discription is way high sound more like 3 to 4 your going to
put a thousand back into it soon as you buy it now it's a 6000 dollar jeep

To me $5K sounds like a bit too much. Not sure what you mean by the oil filter being finished but if you are replacing it drain the oil and take a good look at it. The 258 is almost indestructible but it can be done by severe negligence. If that's the case, do not plan on any thing else being maintained and make your offer accordingly. Jeeps can become quite expensive especially in the cost/value ratio.

I agree pictures could have added some value to the 5g price tag
did the last picture get flipped ?? or is it right hand drive ??
Every year there are fewer and fewer of these things on the road, Even when i go to Moab Utah the Mecca of jeeping i see very few 5s 6s and CJ7s where did they all go get for the best price YOU are happy with get her running enjoy it and pass it on to the kids and grand kids

Well I currently live in barbados so it is a right hand drive, so I needed as much information as possible before I do anything at with the jeep, because I want to eventually do a complete restoration project on the jeep which I figured would be cool

The yellow started to fade because it's in the sun all day

So with the paint faded like that, but not the top, was it left outside without the top on?
