CJ7 3 Speed Tranny

Hello, what do I need to do to change my current 1979 CJ7 3 speed tranny to a 4 or 5 speed?
My jeep runs great with the stock 304 in it , but on long distance drives at 60 to 65 it begins to sputter out, if I pump the gas it kicks back in but stalls.

The problem you describe sounds like carb/fuel related and not transmission.
Rebuild the carb, replace the fuel pump, check the fuel tank for and debris that could be clogging the pick-up.

To change transmissions, you need transmission, pilot bushing, clutch/pp, possibly new bellhousing, new tranny mount, possibly adapter between tranny and tcase, new tcase input gear, driveshafts shortened/lengthened.
Some trannys will be easier to swap than others.
Search Google on Novak Adapters, read the Knowledge Base for more info on tranny swaps. Also search on PartsMike, a good source for T18 4-speed swaps.
