CJs without tailgaits

Can anyone tell me what year model CJ-5s did not have tailgaits?

Thanks.

Not true.

Tailgates were standard, solid panel was an added-cost factory option, included in some trim packages.

The intermediate ('72 - '75) Renegades had no tailgate. By '73, the solid back panel with rear center mounted spare was an added cost option for all CJ-5s. It may have been available in '72, but I think that '73 was the first year.
The solid panel option continued to the end of the CJ-5's run. Seems that the Laredo package included the solid back.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to get rid of the tailgate?

Thanks all. I had an 81 as well steve_plunkett without the tailgate. I didn't know if any other year models came that way or not.
As to why would you do away with the tailgate ... I have an idea for a future build that would be better without the tailgate. If it ever happens I will be sure and let you know.

It's not like there was ever a jeep with a truly useful tailgate anyway.

Just dont take the tailgate off leaving the big tailgate hole, looks dumb.

I always thought the whole solid panel thing was strange looking though.....

My 77 has a tail gate, but my friend has a 76 without one. So I am not sure what years had or didn't have them. ( sorry the jeep is really dirty and looks bad in the photo)

My '82 has no tailgate. Wish it did. Nothing like sitting on the back tailgate drinking a cold one!
