Fathers 1979 CJ..what is it worth?

My father got a bug and bought this CJ last year..now he wants to sell it and I am not sure if what he is asking is what its worth...
Fiberglass body, recent rebuild on a V8, complete restoration..

I need some honest, knowledgeable opinions to help him out..I figured this is the best place for that..been lurking on here since he bought it.

Thanks in advance

A little more detail on options will help but I will make a few assumptions.

- Automatic
- Soft top
- Stock axles/gears
- 4" lift

It looks like a good clean Jeep. I have seen these priced pretty broad. 6500 to 12k. My opinion is in the $8k neighborhood but there is so much selection of years, styles and level of modification that he might have to price lower to sell. IMO. But he might get more. Now is the time to sell. A few more months and it will be worth at least $1k less due to demand.

Thanks for the info Dempsey. He wanted to list it for 9500..I thought that may be a bit high. I will let him know he needs to ask a little less if he wants to sell it.
It is an auto, has a soft top, lifted..
Unfortunately I cant buy it from him at this time as I have 2 vehicles at this time..It would be a fun vehicle to own though..It's parked in my barn so I have been driving it occasionally on the weekends..its gets noticed that's for sure!

Just for future reference, if it had an AMC V8 it would be worth at least 1-2 grand more

For me, the fiber glass body is the deal killer. Unless it was 3k or less I would not even look at it, and even at that price unless I had plans to put a metal body on it or swap the stuff over to another jeep I would keep looking. Again, I am the exception. How much did your dad pay for it?

I agree with all the posts. $9500 is too high IMO. A Amc engine would raise the price. I would also prefer a yj tub over Fiberglass too. The auto hurts the price too.

But many people buying jeeps don't know all these things and he can probably sell it. You will get top dollar for someone looking for a cruiser not really a jeep.

Especially the 360. Those blocks are like gold. About 10 years ago I flew 1200 miles and rented a truck to bring one home.

The body is a negative. And the auto. A T-18 would be a BIG plus.

I'd say $7500 if he finds the right buyer. And if the title is clean.

Thanks to everyone for the info. I will let my dad know what I have learned..
I think he may need to reconsider his asking price if he really wants to sell.
