Found a Postal Jeep

There is a postal jeep for sale 2 hours away from me and it looks good in the pictures I've seen, haven't seen it in person. Has been painted brown and looks like spoked rims on it. Owner is asking $1400 and said it has been mainted well. I'm thinking this jeep would be an excellent little hunting rig, all sandy roads on my hunting lease and no need for a 4x4. Was thinking if I bought it I would go get a cheap harbor freight winch and put on the front of it, probably about a 6000 lb winch.

Couple of questions for ya'll:
Is the price within reason?
Did these jeeps just come with one seat?
Does it have a sliding door on both sides?
Wasn't these built with auto trannys?

I was told this jeep has an inline 6 cylinder engine, haven't talked to owner yet,if some of you think this is a fair deal I will try to call him tonight and see if he still has it . I think this rig has some potential for a cheap hunting buggy.

Well I answered my own question about the doors after looking at the pics on the other posting with the yellow dj that a member is looking at for $800. I like the stance of that yellow dj.

Holy crap Batman! Some lucky dude beat me to it, owner sold it about an hour before I called him. That thang had major possibilities. Still looking for one in my area.

My 77 dj was 2wd, which I think most were. I got mine for $600, sold it for $1200. It had a straight 6, but I don't think it was a 258. After owning that one and having owned many CJs, I'd suggest a CJ5 for a hunting rig. They are cheaper than a CJ7, but solid. I live in Texas and can find a hunting rig quality CJ5 for $1,500 pretty easily. But, I don't know prices other places.

hey CJ7otr,

I thought it was a real good deal on the postal jeep and it would probably be sitting in my barn tonight but I had to attend a funeral this evening and waited on calling about it after the service was over, oh well there will be another one come along one of these days. As far as CJ5's are concerned, I've owned 3 of them in the past, don't want another one unless it was gave to me. Would much rather have a CJ7, got a TJ anyway if four wheel drive is ever needed in my neck of the woods.

Sorry about the funeral. Yeah, I've owned several 7's and I love them. I was not impressed with my postal jeep or my cj5. And being a hunter I'm used to needing serious 4x4 to get up and down the hills. For me the price and capability I prefer the 7.
