Front axle dust shield

Rebuilding the front axle on this 81 CJ8 and need to replace the "inner axle dust shield". This is the seal that slides onto the axle and seals the axle to the tube. Not the oil seal close to the third member but the seal for the end of the tube. I can not find this "shield" or seal in any parts stores in town. Looking in the 4WD catalog it is # 15 and part # D/S35168.
Question is does anyone have a cross reference #
And is it really that mandatory to have it in there. Have looked at a couple of YJ front axles and they don't have them in there.

Thanks in advance.

Can you take a pic just to help clarify which one you are talking about?

I know the feeling. I am making up time for the last 9 months I spent out there building mine...again.

When I replaced the units and installed my aussie locker in the front of my cj I ran into a issue when I messed up a dust cover that they don't make. But there are so many covers, inners and outer stuff it gets confusing. A pic should straighten it out.

Got it figured out. The seal/shield was suppose to go between the outer axle shaft and spindle. Not the inner axle and tube. All is good now
