What year CJ5? What to look for is different, depending on year.

Some common items are tub rust, frame cracks at front frame horns, near engine mounts, and near spring and shackle mounts., frame rust, crossmember rust, bad wiring, tranny/tcase too noisy/jumping out of gear, pulling brakes, weak/disconnected ebrake, rust-through on windshield frame...

and so many more... BTDT !

Can you fit behind steering wheel???? If you can, has the driver side rear wheel well been cut out???

Original engine???? or a SB swap in????

Steering tight or loose????

oh yeah......rust.....rot......welded areas.....

On my buddy's cj-5 I can fit behind the steering wheel and there's been no cutting on the wheel well
I've got one guy that I'm talking to about getting a 79 cj-5 from for 2,500
He said the only thing it needs are new head gaskets

All good thoughts. Mine are to also put your hand with upper body pressure on the floor boards. Many look good, but are at the point of rusting through.
